Country Decor, Oh How I Love Thee!

February 9th, 2016 Country Decor

Valentine’s Day is coming up, so it seems like as good as time as any to talk about love. But we don’t mean Shakespearean sonnet, or Sleepless in Seattle kind of love.

Instead, we want to talk about our love for country décor. Consider this our valentine to our favorite style of decorating.

To paraphrase Elizabeth Barrett Browning: How do we love thee, country décor? Let us count the ways:

Valentines Day Country Decor

1. We love what it does to our kitchens

When people come to your home, they come to your kitchen. It’s a place where guests congregate during parties, or where your family gathers for meals, or kids work on school projects.

It’s is already a homey, communal room, and country décor only adds to that feeling of comfort and warmth.

You don’t need to do a lot to achieve a new look in the kitchen. Add new tablecloths or a table runner and placemats, or decorate with any of the dozens of items in our kitchen accents collection. If you’re feeling more adventurous, replace your existing table with a vintage farm table. It can become the focus of your kitchen with some careful hunting – at flea markets, country stores, etc. — and some restoration.

2. We love what it does for our bedrooms

The sense of warmth and comfort we crave in our kitchen goes double for the bedroom. Country primitive is a relaxed style, which means it pairs well with your warmest, coziest room, the bedroom.

We can help you add a country style to your bedroom with one of our quilts or coverlets, keep time with one of our clocks, decorate your walls with a framed country print, or light your way to bed with one of our many country candles.

3. We love how it mixes

One more thing we love about country décor: it can blend nicely with other styles. It’s a matter of a few simple steps: repeat the same colors throughout your space to bring items together, turn out-of-place pieces (such as an older piece of furniture in an otherwise modern room) into the centerpiece of the space. And keep things simple: Overstuffing your rooms with a lot of country-flavored items can make your home seem like the neighborhood knick-knack shop.

4. We love that it works inside and outside

Yet another great thing about country home décor is that it’s not just for the inside of your home. You can decorate your front porch with a series of wreaths that you can change depending on the time of year, or change the cover of your mailbox to reflect a country style.

5. We love that it works in all seasons

We’re lucky to be from a part of the world that has definitive seasons. Spring is green and flowery, summers are warm, fall is cool and colorful, and winter is…well, winter can be very pretty, at least right after it snows.

The great thing about the seasons is that they change: summer cools off into autumn, winter turns to spring, etc. And that connects to the last thing we love about country décor: the way it can fit with any of the seasons.

In the summer, you can make lamps from old mason jars for nighttime barbecues and drink iced tea and lemonade from our country glassware.

In the fall, you can give your home a Halloween makeover, or celebrate the end of the harvest.

When it’s winter, you can decorate for Christmas, and then spend the rest of season surrounding yourself in décor that says “warmth.” One way you can do that is by adding a few extra blankets and country pillows to your furniture.

And when springtime comes, you can set up one of our fairy gardens as you begin to plant your flowers, fruits and vegetables, or replace your winter curtains with something lighter.

That’s five reasons we love country décor. We hope you find something in our collection you love just as much.
